World’s Largest Swimming Pool Is 1 KM Long

In Absolutely Insane on November 6, 2007 at 8:03:23 pm

What you’re looking at is the world’s largest swimming pool. It’s over 1 KM long, and it resides in Chile at the San Alfonso del Mar Resort.Click here to see it on Google Maps.I don’t know if there’s anything else to say, except the price tag: a cool $1.5 billion. Yup, with a b. So, if you’re a multibillionaire and you’d rather not have an Edo 599 GTB (you ought to be put into a padded room), well, you can have a kilometre long swimming pool. Thanks to SElectroClash for the (somewhat old) news.

Update: So, a commenter below has informed me that the pool only cost $3.5 million. That seems a bit on the low side, but whatever.

  1. “On behalf of Crystal Lagoons, we want to clarify that the information published in
this web page, is incorrect. The construction of the lagoon San Alfonso del Mar, located in Algarrobo, had a cost of US$3.5 million and the maintenance cost is equivalent to the maintenace cost of 1/4 of a golf course”.

  2. the pool definately cost 1.5 billion US dollars to build, and would most likely cost 3.5 million US Dollars to maintain a year. you would be lucky to get an olympic sized swimming pool for less than 750,000 US dollars

  3. Using current conversion rates, $3.5 million USD = about 1.6 billion Chilean Pesos. Perhaps that is where the $1 billion number comes from. I do agree that the estimate is low however.

  4. actually it cost 2 billion us dollars and it cost 2 million a year to maintain. i just got back from there its more amazing in person

  5. I’m thinking of arranging a group of master swimmers from Canada to train at this pool for 1 week – swim vacation. Seeking local person for logistics. Kelvin – klandolt@npconsultants.com
